Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY

The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2017-18 provides overviews of the key properties of over 1,700 pharmacological targets and links to the open access knowledge base of drug targets and their ligands in the www.guidetopharmacology.org database.

The Concise Guide is divided into several areas of focus:

  • G protein-coupled receptors
  • Voltage-gated ion channels
  • Ligand-gated ion channels
  • Other ion channels
  • Nuclear hormone receptors
  • Catalytic receptors
  • Enzymes
  • Transporters
  • Selected other protein targets

Each is presented with nomenclature guidance and summary information on the best available pharmacological tools, alongside key references and further reading. The Concise Guide is a synopsis of data presented in the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to PHARMACOLOGY database and is published as an issue of the British Journal of Pharmacology. The Concise Guide is free to access.

The Concise Guide succeeds previous Guides to Receptors and Channels (GRAC). The Concise Guide is a permanent, citable point-in-time record which survives database updates.

BJP publishes reviews written and validated by experts sitting on the NC-IUPHAR (Nomenclature Committee of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology). These reviews confirm the existing nomenclature and review current understanding of structure, pharmacology and functions.
