Responsible for management and delivery of the Society’s objectives

Jono joined the Society in 2009 as Head and then Director of Communications. He became CEO in June 2012 and is responsible for delivering the Society’s five-year strategic plan across seven main areas of development, including its plan to diversify revenue. As CEO, Jono has overall responsibility for strategic and financial management, business development, human resources, policy development, governance and the oversight of projects that are designed to support the UK and international pharmacology community.

Financial management and planning, operations management, corporate governance, constitutional matters.

Mike is an ACA-qualified Chartered Accountant with a wealth of financial and business expertise. His priority is to support the Society’s 5-year strategy with robust financial and business disciplines that protect, diversify and grow income while increasing efficiency. He is responsible for corporate services, including finance, IT, HR and facilities. Mike succeeded in a similar role at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health where he supported a period of fourfold income growth that included a significant income from publishing. He joined the Society from Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research where he led a change to their financial strategy that enabled them to safely commit their highest-ever annual sum towards research.

David was formerly Executive Director, Strategic Innovation, at the Royal Society of Chemistry, leading the organisation’s business development planning for new products and services generating growth opportunities for the organisation. He was also responsible for directing business intelligence activities to provide customer, market and competitor analysis. He identified major strategic acquisition targets and potential business and/or technical partners in keeping with the RSC’s strategy. He was also responsible for all platform development for the delivery of RSC content as well as having responsibility for international strategy. Subsequent to working for the RSC he was Director, Academic Partnerships, at Qiqqa, a leading research management software technology. David has a PhD in biochemistry from Birmingham University and an MBA from the Open University.

Strategic leadership of the Society’s education, engagement and policy work

Anna was awarded a BSc in Pharmacology from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Biomedical Science, with time spent at Pfizer (UK) and Cel-Sci (USA). She went on to complete her PhD and postdoctoral training in cellular and in vivo neuroscience at Imperial College London where she used genetic mouse models to study how natural sleep pathways interact with sedatives and general anaesthetics. She co-founded ScienceGrrl in 2012, a Not for Profit organisation supporting and showcasing women and girls in science - leading on organisational strategy, policy work and social media. Anna was previously the Head of Education, Training & Policy at the Society, leading the Focus on Pharmacology project.

Delivery and management associated with the Society's journals and other publishing functions.

Kathryn has over eight years experience working within academic publishing. She previously worked at Cambridge University Press in a number of editorial roles across life sciences books and journals, and latterly worked for the open access publisher BioMed Central where she was responsible for the growth and development of a portfolio of journals across the health sciences, and for identifying new business opportunities related to the changing needs of the communities those journals served.

David joined the Society from Universities UK, where he spent six years in various roles, most recently as senior communications officer with responsibilities across web, digital, social media, publications and brand. He has also worked in TV and radio listings, university administration and for the International Baccalaureate. David studied English literature at Cardiff University, gaining both a BA and an MA.

Bookkeeping, expense and supplier payments and credit control

Amandeep has a (BA) Hons in Accounting and Finance and is a Part Qualified ACCA Accountant who joined us in February 2015. Previously Amandeep worked for Nottingham CityCare CIC, a social, enterprise providing healthcare services within Nottingham as a Management Accountant, providing support to budget managers in order for them to manage their budgets effectively. She is currently studying to become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.

Support for the Society's Affinity Groups, Advisory Groups and Ambassadors; membership engagement & recruitment; nurturing stakeholder relationships

Teesha graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Southampton. Her Technical Support and Field Sales Representative roles for laboratory specialists Anachem Ltd (Mettler Toledo) were followed by a year as Employment Contracts Officer for University College London. She enjoys and has experience of engaging a variety of audiences, as well as providing internal administrative support within organisations.

Anna Clark, Office Manager & Executive Assistant

Ensuring the smooth running of the office, providing HR support and assisting the President, President-Elect, Honorary Treasurer, CEO, Finance & Commercial Director and Heads of Department

Anna is an experienced Office Manager & Executive Assistant, having joined the Society from a similar role at a London based e-commerce company. Prior to that, Anna worked for the Australian Government in the Mental Health branch of the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs where she oversaw the delivery of mental health programmes across Western Australia. She has also worked for the Australian  Department of Health and Ageing initially as an Administrative Assistant up to a Project Officer for Indigenous and Women’s Health in Western Australia.

Logistical support to the Meetings and Education function – including Focused Meeting organisation, Meetings Committee & Affinity Groups administration, as well as supporting the organisation for the annual meeting

Charlotte joined the Society from the Royal Society of Medicine where she looked after a number of medical specialities and organised clinical and non-clinical meetings and events. Previous to that, Charlotte has experience of working in the corporate sales team for Hilton Hotels, and studied Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Manages and reviews the Society’s educational and career resources

Laura joined the Society following her role at Healthcare Learning (a blended learning organisation), where she managed a portfolio of postgraduate qualifications and developed new courses with various stakeholders. She has seven years' experience of working in education and training departments, and graduated from the University of Leeds, with a BA (Hons) in Business and Environment.

Oversight and management of the Society’s education and engagement portfolio

Lee was formerly a Medicinal Chemist with 12 years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry with GlaxoSmithKline and Astex Pharmaceuticals.  Lee joined the Society in 2016 from the Royal Society of Chemistry where, as Education Executive, he project managed a series of successful online resources and assessments for A-level students. Lee is a Chartered Chemist and has an MChem in Chemistry from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.

Paul joined the Society in 2001, working in the British Journal of Pharmacology  Editorial Office. In 2008 he moved into membership services, and is now responsible for managing the membership and the Society's prizes and awards, including meetings bursaries.

Pete joined the Society in April 2014 as Information Systems Manager as maternity leave cover and was heavily involved in the implementation of the Society’s new CRM. In January, he took up the role of PSA Technical & Systems manager.Before joining the Society, Pete was IT Manger for 3 years at Peter Bedford Housing Association, a Hackney-based charity providing homes and training to enable homeless people with mental health problems and substance misuse issues to rebuild their lives.

Sophie joined the Society in April 2017 from Capita Conferences where she managed a busy schedule of meetings, including 4–6 public sector conferences each month. Previously, she gained event management experience working closely with the managing director of KC Events Ltd.

Lisa Hevey, Clinical Education, Training and Policy Manager​

Ensures the relevance, quality and delivery of clinical education, training and policy programmes on behalf of the Society 

Lisa graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in Sociology before studying for an MA in Sociology (Research) at the Sorbonne (Paris IV). She has worked in the Higher Education sector for several years in addition to teaching English as a foreign language for many years. She previously worked at the Equality Challenge Unit and the Medical Schools Council as a Policy Officer where her work focused on selection methods used for those applying to medicine and widening participation.

Shaun has 9 years’ experience working in the Further Education sector where he worked in a governance role since 2010. Shaun has a L4 Certificate in FE Governance for Clerks from Warwick University and  is currently completing his Advanced Certificate in Corporate Governance through ICSA (Institute Of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators).

Emma gained an Environmental Geoscience MSci from Imperial College in 2015 and then worked for the publisher Pearson as a Maths Editor. She joins the Society in the newly created role of Editorial Assistant and is combining her science background with her editorial experience. She supports the Society's Publications Committee, as well as assisting with the day-to-day running of our journals.

Yasmin joined the Society from the Royal College of Nursing, where she worked in a similar role for two years. She is responsible for the development of the Society's digital platforms, including the website, enewsletters and social media channels.

Alison Bate, Education, Training & Policy Officer

Administration and project support for the Society’s education, training and policy activities

Alison graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc in Human Physiology (INT). She has taken part in various voluntary activities for improving public and global health, including the planning and delivery of Education Health resources in Nepal, as part of a funded project. She has experience in procurement and a grounding in health systems management from her time spent at NHS Digital. Alison was previously the Education, Training and Careers intern at the Society.

Imran joined the society with over 12 years of IT experience from various sectors from corporate, public, and the charity sector. He has had a love for technology and gadgets from an early age, believes he was destined to work in IT. Imran manages the IT infrastructure and makes sure that business systems and solutions are robust as well as cost effective, whilst also aligned to the Society’s five year strategy.
