The work of the British Pharmacological Society benefits universities in the UK and around the world by:
- Collaborating with university departments on projects that demonstrate impact. As just one example, the Guide to Pharmacology is a searchable database of drug targets, and the prescription medicines and experimental drugs that act on them. This ‘one stop shop’ portal is open access and easy to use. It is funded by British Pharmacological Society, International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology and the Wellcome Trust, and it's developed within the Centre for Integrative Physiology at the University of Edinburgh, led by Professor Jamie Davies.
- Nurturing connections between UK members and their counterparts around the world.
- Supporting students and their teachers through every step of their studies.
- Recognising excellence in the research and application of pharmacology through our prestigious prizes and awards, as well as membership categories of Fellowship and Honorary Fellowship.
- Providing financial support to members:
- The Society has established a bursary and travel grant fund to contribute towards the cost of attending symposia, conferences and meetings deemed by the Society to be of interest to pharmacologists. So far, all eligible members who have appliedto this fund have received a contribution towards their costs.
- Up to £2,500 is available to members of the British Pharmacological Society to organise independent meetings, events and symposia.
- The Society offers teaching grants to support the creation and/or development of novel educational resources or approaches to undergraduate pharmacology or clinical pharmacology teaching
- Advancing a wide range of other scientific disciplines by supporting and strengthening pharmacology. This includes, not is not limited to, biomedical sciences, medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology, health policy and nursing.
- Making openly available to all organisations and scientists at no charge:
- Opportunities to contribute to consultations and science policy.
- Resources to promote and encourage education and training at all career levels.
